Board shortens closed sessions, moves to earlier open‑session starts to increase participation

The superintendent proposed adjusting board meeting times to shorten closed sessions to no more than one hour and to start open sessions earlier when the board meets at school sites. The stated goal was to make meetings more accessible to families who pick up students in the early evening.
"To be more efficient and also to allow for greater participation from our stakeholders, we're making this recommendation in regards to the shortening of closed session, to no more than an hour... and open session when we don't have a community meeting would start at 06:30," the superintendent said. Board members discussed the historical reason for longer closed sessions (expulsion hearings) and agreed an hour is generally adequate now. The board voted to implement the schedule change beginning October 14.
The motion to approve the meeting-time adjustment passed by voice vote. The district will publish an updated governance calendar showing the new start times.
