Ocean Pines to replace medic unit after accident; demo unit available in 45 days

Association staff and department representatives reported that an accident damaged a medic unit while transporting a patient, and repairs were estimated at about $66,000. Given the unit’s limited remaining service life, the department recommended replacing rather than repairing and located a demo unit in stock through a Maryland vendor with expected delivery in about 45 days.
"There was $66,000 worth of damage done to it… investing $66,000 worth of repairs into a unit that we only had about a year left or useful life wasn't the best investment for the community," the department representative said, explaining the decision to accelerate replacement. The association said insurance would cover part of the value under an agreed-value policy and that they have mutual-aid agreements with Ocean City and Berlin to lend units if a primary unit goes out of service.
Management said the replacement cost estimates align with reserve-study planning and that the association will move forward to procure the demo unit and scrap or sell the old unit as appropriate. The board expressed appreciation for the fire department’s coordination.
