The superintendent warned trustees that revised health-insurance rate proposals could significantly affect the FY25-26 budget. She said actuarial results and proposed JPA rate changes could raise employer contributions from current monthly amounts and estimated an approximate total district cost increase near $1,000,000 for the coming year. "With the employee count of 255, that takes our increased cost to 1,000,000, just under $1,100,000," she said in the meeting.
Finance discussion noted projected monthly per-employee contributions that could move from $13.67 to scenarios between roughly $16.65 (Blue Shield estimate) and $17.37 (if staying with the current provider). Trustees expressed frustration at the timing of rate notices and asked staff to explore mitigation steps, including budget reductions already begun and an earmarked reserve the district had set aside anticipating insurance increases. The superintendent said staff will continue to vet options, meet with the JPA and report back at the May meeting with refined budget impact analysis.
