"For our 8th graders, they actually are showing 53% — they're 3 percent above what would be a typical growth in a school year," she said, and also highlighted a 124% figure called out for 7th-grade reading on a specific dashboard view.
Viera acknowledged limitations in the district’s slide access and said she would correct permissions so trustees can review subgroup breakdowns; she also raised operational concerns about class sizes, noting that combined 7th/8th math sections have reached nearly 40 students due to a vacant math position. Trustees asked for clearer exportable reports; staff committed to fixing link permissions and providing printouts to support subsequent LCAP discussions.
Trustees and staff discussed supports for English learners and staffing plans to reduce overcrowded classes. The superintendent said staff will work with the county office and Aeries Analytics to create subgroup reporting so teachers and the board can monitor growth across student groups.
