Parks department reports staffing strains, maintenance wins and new partnerships

Agency official S2 summarized seasonal operations and maintenance across the city's parks, saying the department employs 31 full‑time staff but typically needs an additional 12–15 seasonal workers. "We try and hire 21 people during our busy time... generally, we're about 12 or 13 people and that's a strain," S2 said, adding that staffing shortfalls require daily prioritization after recent rain events.

S2 described partnerships that expand capacity: landscaping and availability of a downtown parking lot with the Rotary Club, and a cooperative arrangement with the nearby base to maintain memorial gardens. S2 also reported a main water line break affecting the Sherwood Forest fountain and said utilities are locating the break. Committeemembers were encouraged to notify the department of uncompleted requests so staff can prioritize work.
