Board approves alternative education and special education accountability reports

Joe Hammond, director of SCSS alternative education, said the alternative programs showed steady improvement in graduation rates and reductions in dropout rates, and emphasized career technical education offerings, small class sizes and social‑emotional supports. "It is designed to help educational partners understand how a school is serving students academically, socially and operationally," Hammond told trustees.
A county special education presenter reported the department serves more than 600 students with moderate to severe disabilities across 29 districts, that more than 80% of teachers are highly qualified and that chronic absenteeism has decreased from post‑COVID levels. The board approved both SARCs by unanimous roll call.
