Board authorizes bid solicitation for new special‑education classroom at Carruthers

The Fresno County Board of Education voted to authorize staff to solicit bids for a new special‑education classroom addition at Brothers (Carruthers) Elementary (project C2025‑13).
Mr. Becker (facilities staff) told trustees the project is a 1,400‑square‑foot stick‑built building with a classroom, bathroom, kitchenette and an intervention space. "The estimated architect's estimate for this project we expect is to come in around 936,000, and when we do include soft cost of architect fees, inspections, etcetera, it brings the total project cost to 1,100,000," he said. Staff said the special education program will front the cost and the district will apply for state bond reimbursement; staff estimated the state would reimburse roughly $400,000–$500,000 over about three years.
Trustees moved and seconded the motion; a roll‑call vote recorded unanimous approval (President Masamoto: Yes; Vice President Tapscott Munson: Yes; Member Burton: Yes; Member Clyde: Yes; Member Robles: Yes). Bids will be returned and staff will present results at a subsequent meeting.
