The Old Kings Highway Committee approved application 26-A-086 on July 27 for exterior work at 279 Setauket Road, owned by Liz Argo. Contractor Walter Warren of Sand Dollar Customs told the committee the project includes replacing the front roof and some cedar shingles "like for like" and adding a 10-by-5 porch with a landing and stairs. "The proposal would be to put on architecturals," Warren said when asked about shingle type.
Committee members pressed on the existing roof material and color after reviewing photos. One committee member noted the existing shingles looked like three-tab asphalt in the photos; Warren said he believed they were architectural shingles and confirmed the proposed color would match the existing tones. Neighbor John Gilligan of 281 Chicago Road spoke in support, saying the changes "enhance her house and doesn't do anything detrimental to the neighborhood." The committee moved, seconded and approved the application by voice vote. The applicant was reminded of a 10-calendar-day appeal period following filing with the town clerk and to notify the office if any details later change.
