Residents raise concerns about speed bumps and a missing turn signal near Nutter Fort park

Multiple residents raised traffic and safety concerns during public comment at the Sept. 10 meeting. Resident Mike Curran, who serves on the traffic advisory committee, said he was not invited to a recent meeting and argued that speed bumps by the park can damage vehicles. “Speed bumps tear up vehicles,” the minutes record Curran saying.
The minutes note there is an existing speed bump on Burton Avenue and that Thomas Street is slated for a new speed bump. The record states that Chief Godwin has final authority on the safety decision and that the mayor will speak with the park superintendent. Curran also asked whether a turning signal could be added where a turning lane exists at Buckhannon Pike and Pennsylvania Avenue; Mayor Maxson said he would contact the West Virginia Department of Highways to seek information.
Resident Shirley Sheets asked where additional speed bumps will be placed; Mayor Maxson replied that Thomas Street is next and that additional suggestions would be taken to the traffic advisory committee.
