The Osage City Council voted July 8 to approve Resolution No. 1139, finding that a nuisance exists at 519 N. 4th Street and giving the property owner 10 days from the date of service to abate the conditions.
City Manager Katie Hodge introduced the resolution and explained the abatement process. Property owner Pat Berner addressed the council to report on his property clean-up status; neighbor Selina Jones told the council she was dissatisfied with the progress. City Attorney Rick Godderz reviewed the city’s abatement authority and said the action followed the applicable city ordinance.
Council Member Cathryn Houghton moved to approve the resolution; Council Member Mike Gilliland seconded the motion. The council declared the motion carried by a 7-0 vote. The resolution lists the affected lots in Block 10, Danford’s Addition, and sets the 10-day compliance period starting from the date the resolution is served to the property owner.
The action is administrative code enforcement: it directs the property owner to abate the conditions rather than immediately ordering city-performed abatement. The council did not record a request for immediate city abatement or specify a follow-up enforcement hearing at the meeting. Next steps identified in the meeting record call for the city to serve the resolution and track compliance within the 10-day window.
