Staff reports Allegheny Main Streets grant award for 'Activate Uptown'; facade grant moving forward

Eric Nollier, staff to the advisory board, reported the partnership was awarded a grant from Allegheny Main Streets for the Activate Uptown initiative, though the exact award amount had not yet been released. Nollier said the commission previously allocated $221,000 toward elements of the plan including Clock Tower Plaza and related lighting and shade features, and the grant award will allow staff to move forward with design and vendor work once amounts and allowable uses are confirmed.
Nollier also said the facade-grant committee reviewed the partnership’s first facade-grant application and expected to notify the applicant of approval; several other Uptown businesses have expressed interest in the facade program. Staff cautioned that grant funds cannot be used retroactively for work already executed and that procurement steps remain before funds can be spent.
