The judge found Calvin Smith's guilty pleas were entered freely and voluntarily and, after reviewing the pre-sentence materials, deferred proceedings in two cause numbers and placed him on probation for five years in each case. "I'll be more than follow the agreement that you made with the district attorney and defer all proceedings and place you on probation for 5 years," the judge stated.
The court ordered a $1,000 fine in each case and explained that successful completion of probation will lead to dismissal and no felony conviction on his record; conversely, violations could lead to being brought back to court and possible prison terms outlined by statute. Probation staff will contact the defendant to initiate required paperwork.
