Hope Select Board open to serving as fiscal agent for consolidated ESEA grants

Kate Clark, joined by Shawn Carlson and Steph McBride, presented a proposal to the Hope Select Board on May 27 to consolidate Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) grants so a single town would receive funds as fiscal agent while the superintendent would write and administer grants for each school. Kate explained the way the proposal is structured there would be no financial risk to Hope as the fiscal agent and that the full School Board also must agree before any change would take effect.
Select Board members expressed preliminary support but did not take a formal vote. The board asked Shawn Carlson to bring additional documentation and details to a future Select Board meeting so members could review the fiscal and administrative arrangements before any binding decision or before the item is taken up at the School Board's June meeting. No timeline for a final vote by the Select Board or School Board was set at the May 27 meeting.
