Resident tells council construction, poor drainage caused flooding damage

Christopher Adams, who identified himself as a resident of 1016 Greenfield Drive in the Golden Hills area, addressed the Cheney City Council during public comment and described significant flooding and property damage he attributes to nearby construction and inadequate drainage. “We have experienced substantial flooding damage to our homes,” Adams said, and added that water has crept under houses and mold is now present beneath at least one home.
Adams said his neighborhood has experienced washouts since the hill at the top of the development was raised, and that three inspections (city inspector, a homeowner's inspector and a real estate company) had failed to prevent the damage. He said recent appraisals by landscaping companies put damage to his backyard alone at about $40,000 and that his home's vapor barrier may need to be torn out and rebuilt. Adams said he is representing about five families on his street and asked the council what help it could provide.
Mayor Grover acknowledged Adams’ contact information and said staff would follow up. The council did not take immediate formal action during the meeting; Adams’ remarks were recorded during the public-comment period.
