Heritage Pines board approves Premier Lakes algae-treatment contract, citing $3,200 annual savings

The Heritage Pines Community Development District Board of Supervisors voted unanimously Oct. 15 to hire Premier Lakes, Inc. for pond-algae treatment under a $19,200 contract that District Manager Chuck Adams said will save the district about $3,200 per year compared with the current SOLitude contract.
Adams described the chemical SOLitude used as "a copper-based product" and said residents’ complaints about smell were caused by "the degasification of the algae, which lasts a couple of days." He told the board he would initiate SOLitude’s 30-day termination clause so SOLitude’s services would end Nov. 30, 2024 and Premier Lakes would commence service Dec. 1, 2024. On motion by Assistant Secretary Michael Walsh and seconded by Assistant Secretary Carol Vaughan, the board approved the Premier Lakes proposal.
The motion passed with all five supervisors in favor. The proposal was presented as a cost-saving measure and was tied to outstanding questions about which ponds were treated under the prior contract; Mr. Adams said the Premier Lakes report will contain more detail on treated locations. The board’s action replaces one vendor with another and does not include an additional public hearing.
