City accepts SRTC grant to buy electric vehicles and build solar canopy

Tom, the staff presenter, described an SRTC funding agreement the city had worked on to replace part of its gas fleet with electric vehicles and to build a solar canopy for charging. "This will purchase 4 Ford Lightnings, 1 Mach E, 2 of the Polaris all-electric vehicles, and also construct a solar canopy for charging," Tom said, and added the program aligns with Washington State green-vehicle goals.
Council members asked about grid impact and whether the solar canopy would offset charging demand; Tom said the vehicles are mostly for in-town use and the canopy should provide some charging capacity but it’s too early to estimate exact cost offsets. The council moved to approve resolution FD-335 and the motion carried by voice vote.
