"This Bangor School Foundation is going to be an independent 501 nonprofit organization... It is structurally distinct," Robinson said, adding that the foundation is intended to provide additional opportunities beyond the regular school budget rather than replace budgeted funds.
Robinson said she would follow up with a clearer timeline on IRS processing (she estimated it may take around six months but said she would confirm) and that the foundation’s board selection process may include an application modeled on other advisory committees. Members expressed enthusiasm for the foundation as a way to remove barriers and solicit new resources for schools.
Next steps: staff to clarify IRS timeline and develop a process for selecting foundation board members; bylaws and formal board appointments will follow IRS determination.
