Committee hears Fairmount relocation timeline, Carpenter Associates to present cost estimates in August

Director Hale summarized major projects across the district, including restroom modernization at Mary Snow School, window-and-curtain-wall replacements at Vine Street and Fruit Street schools, a new ADA restroom and conference-room renovation at 14th Street School, and the second phase of curtain-wall replacement and rear-exterior work at Bangor High. "That project expands and modernizes the existing restroom to provide improved accessibility and better serve students and staff," Hale said, listing upgrades planned this summer.
Robinson said Fairmount items have already been staged at the high school and that construction work will dictate when final moves occur. Carpenter Associates will present detailed repair needs and cost estimates at the August meeting; Robinson said the district is aiming to have bids out by November for summer work. "We're trying to get information for August," Robinson said, adding that the November bidding timeline is a firm deadline for work scheduled next summer.
Committee members raised operational questions about how Fairmount students will access facilities at the high school. Robinson said band and orchestra will have morning access to the high school auditorium, Fairmount will keep four lunch periods with half of a grade out to recess at a time, and the district is finalizing day-to-day routines and parent communications. Playground work and equipment installation will follow completion of the curtain-wall construction, Robinson added.
The committee discussed presenting visual materials and progress updates to families and the public at the August 12 meeting. Member Bridal requested visuals showing where the library and recess areas will be located; Robinson and Hale confirmed the district will provide more detailed diagrams as components are completed.
Next steps: Carpenter Associates will present in August; staff will provide follow-up visuals and a clearer schedule for classroom assignments and family communications.
