District outlines three-week summer school and student access to regional CTE courses

District leadership outlined a three-week summer school program scheduled for July 28 through August 14, Monday–Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 2:40 p.m., with Sarah Wicks leading grades 7–12 programming and Sherry Myers coordinating K–6. The program is literacy-focused, pairs students with community partners (for example, Rogue Valley Farm for cooking/exploration activities), and had 137 families submit interest forms at the time of the meeting.
The board also heard progress on the Southern Oregon Career Center (SOCC) partnership: Rogue River SD 35 and Phoenix Talent SD were early supporters and currently have two enrolled students, with more considering participation. The CTE center will offer training or certification opportunities such as medical assisting, certified nurse assistant, entry-level EMT and phlebotomy, and will explore future expansions.
