Northland Pines board approves consent agenda; administrators flag new state Act 89 communications rule

The Board of Education of the Northland Pines School District approved its consent agenda on July 27 during a routine voice vote.
Tony, the district administrator, told the board that one item in the packet — a draft policy tied to Act 89 — will require district implementation by Sept. 1. "Act 89 is a state law that we have to implement by September 1," Tony said, explaining the law will require a communication policy that defines boundaries between staff, students, board members and volunteers and will likely be paired with mandatory training modules for staff.
Administrators told the board the state has not yet released training materials but that the district anticipates video-based trainings similar to existing mandated-reporter sessions. The Chair called for a voice vote on the consent agenda and declared the motion carried after members responded in the affirmative.
