The MAC heard a Landscape Committee report noting specific projects and coordination with Rancho Simi Recreation & Parks District (RSRPD). The committee described juniper hedge removal and replacement with gravel at Kanan & Tamarind to improve safety, revitalized planting along Hawthorn Drive, and plans to prepare planting plans pending Public Works authorization.
RSRPD updated the Council on a Nov. 14 community meeting and reported receiving approximately $2.3 million in grants for improvements along Medea and Lindero creeks (removal of invasive species, palm tree hazard removal and sediment management). The Deerhill Park pickleball facility was reported to be in its third plan check with Ventura County Building Safety, and RSRPD is working to resolve a recent hillside sediment debris flow that affected nearby backyards.
Friends of Oak Park Open Space expressed concerns that previous vegetation removal work may not have followed mandatory CDFW regulations in headwater areas and asked for a management plan to prevent environmental damage. The committee recommended community engagement on service expectations and noted rising operating costs.
