City staff told the council there are three applicants for the municipal judge position and that two clearly meet the qualifications that the city seeks. The city manager said the plan had been to use a subcommittee of council members to interview candidates and asked for volunteers to serve on that interview group in the next few weeks so the city could finalize an appointment if possible before the next council meeting.
The manager cautioned that scheduling could push a decision into January but said that any minimal impact to the municipal court process (such as rescheduling a trial) could be managed. "We had 3 applicants for the municipal judge position. 2 of them very clearly meet the qualifications...If we do need to go into January, we would just take care of it at the 1st council meeting in January," staff said.
