Ventura County Fire Department: academy underway, assistant chief promoted, wildfire risk remains

The Ventura County Fire Department reported that its 62nd Fire Academy began with 33 trainees working toward probationary firefighter status over a 20-week program. The department also announced the promotion of Division Chief Barry Parker to Assistant Fire Chief of the Support Services Bureau.
Scott Thomsen, VCFD director of communications, noted that recent rains returned some short-term relief after a drier-than-normal December and January, but cautioned that overall vegetation moisture remains low and wildfire risk continues. "That said, the vegetation moisture content remains low, so the risk of wildfires continues. Everyone should continue to be careful about any activities that could start a fire," the memo advised.
