Sheriff’s report: one license-plate reader installed in Oak Park; two more planned

The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office reported on recent public-safety activity in Oak Park, including the installation of one license plate reader (LPR) camera on Aug. 24 on westbound Kanan Road between Lindero Canyon Rd. and Los Arcos Dr., with two additional cameras planned for installation by October. The cameras are funded through the California Organized Retail Theft Prevention Grant, the report said. The office also noted deputies responded to 117 calls for service in July and 103 calls in August, and detectives are investigating several fraud, vandalism and auto-crime matters tied to suspects arrested in related cases.
Detective Tim Behrend was present to answer questions about the police report and staff confirmed the LPR program's grant funding. The report advised residents to lock vehicles and be wary of telephone scams that request banking information or payment by gift card or cryptocurrency.
