Urban Renewal board authorizes 'Energize Growth' program and directs staff to implement

The Sandy Urban Renewal Agency voted to authorize staff to implement a three‑part economic support package renamed "Energize Growth," directing city staff and a contracted consultant to launch grant and loan windows beginning in January. The board passed a motion to modify the program name and authorize staff implementation after discussion of funding levels and program administration.

Consultant John Legarza, of Healthy Sustainable Communities, described the proposal and told the board, "In your packet tonight, you'll see there was a new proposed Sandy Ignite program" (the board later adopted the alternative name). Chair (speaker 2) called for the motion and, following a second, the board approved the recommendation on a voice vote.

The authorization directs staff to open application windows, advertise through local partners and the chamber, and return to the board if program adjustments or larger financing requests require further action. Board members emphasized starting modestly and using initial rounds to gauge interest and adjust program caps in future budget cycles.
