Former Troy librarian urges commissioners to apologize and support Troy Library

Adam Stevenson, who identified himself as a recent Troy librarian, used his public-comment time to sharply criticize commissioners for what he called back-channel conversations about the Troy Library. Stevenson said commissioners had told the public they were unaware of a library meeting when, he alleged, they had in fact discussed plans with the mayor and other parties; he said that sequence of events created pressure on the library board and volunteers and undermined trust in county decision-making.

"This is exactly the kind of behavior that fuels public frustration and the perception of a good old boy system," Stevenson said, urging a public apology and for commissioners to demonstrate "genuine accountability" and to support — not offload — the Troy Library. Commissioners acknowledged the comment and did not immediately respond with a verbal apology during the meeting; the board will have the record of the comment in meeting minutes.
