And what I just got confirmed is that that match can be in‑kind contribution,” the planner said, adding that DES indicated the match might be covered in part by excess resiliency funds if the award is finalized quickly.
Commissioners discussed whether the funds should pay a contractor or a temporary in‑house hire, noting the award’s term runs through the calendar year and may be best used to buy specialized contractor expertise quickly. The planner said the $50,000 is a “great start” but not the total solution; staff are also pursuing two‑ to three‑year funding for a temporary in‑house position after this grant is used.
The board voted to authorize a signed commitment letter on county letterhead if the grant is awarded so DES can proceed. Staff will draft language and ask DES whether a template is available.
