Town opens competing bid on town acreage and approves farm-lease termination

"They're offering 18,000 an acre to 1 36,000 for 2 acres," staff noted when reading the bid into the record. Staff asked for authority to negotiate with competing bidders if necessary and recommended taking the new bid under advisement while reviewing compliance.
Council also authorized staff to terminate an existing farm lease on that property with proper notice. The staff member said the lease is effectively year-to-year and requires a three-month notice prior to expiration; the council voted to issue notice so the town can clear the title for a potential sale.
Next steps: staff will verify the bid meets formal criteria, negotiate as authorized if competing bids exist, issue termination notice to the farm lessee in advance of the September crop year, and return to council with a contract or recommendation at the July meeting if appropriate.
