Council approves resolution to forward a county zoning overlay for a small downtown area

"Basically, what we're doing is because the county — the public hearing on this is held by the county," the staff member said, explaining that Milan and neighboring towns would sign resolutions so the county can publish notice and proceed with a public hearing. The staff member said the only remaining matter for Milan was attaching a corrected map to the resolution.
The council moved to approve the resolution subject to attaching the finalized map and directed staff to sign and forward the document for the county's public notice. Councilors clarified that existing businesses in the corridor would generally be grandfathered and that the overlay applies only to Carr Street and parts of Main Street, not the entire town.
Next steps: attach Deb's corrected map to the town resolution, obtain signatures from the participating towns, and forward the signed resolution and materials to the county for publication and the public hearing.
