Council adopts ordinance banning camping on vacant lots

The Cloud Lake Town Council adopted Ordinance No. 165 at its Jan. 8 meeting, creating a vacant-lot maintenance subsection and a prohibition on camping on vacant lots. The ordinance was read by title by the town attorney and passed on a 4–0 vote with Council Member John Tyson absent.
The ordinance responds to recent illegal camping incidents in town. Town Attorney William P. Doney clarified how the rule applies to parcels and RV parking: an RV cannot be parked on a vacant lot, while on a developed lot an RV may be parked next to or behind a residence. Resident Virginia Standish raised a parcel-identification concern, saying, "The County indicates my one parcel as unit A and unit B because there are 2 water meters." The attorney responded that the property is platted as one parcel with a single property-control number.
Council Member Alexandra Powell-Sardinas moved to adopt the ordinance; Council Member Kathleen Hoock seconded the motion and the council approved it 4–0. The town indicated enforcement will follow the ordinance language once the ordinance becomes effective.
