The Lincoln County Board of County Commissioners read and passed a resolution of intent to alter the Eureka Fire Service Area (Resolution 2025-27) and scheduled two public hearings for affected property owners.
The resolution—read aloud by the chair—cited Montana Code Annotated 7-33-2401 as authorizing the board to establish, alter or dissolve fire service areas and said mapping and access-route updates, combined with fire-official recommendations, supported adding parcels to the Eureka FSA to improve emergency response coverage. The resolution directs that written and oral comments, including protests, will be received at public hearings and notes that if owners of more than 50% of properties within the proposed area submit written protests, the proposed alteration will be void.
Two hearings were scheduled: Aug. 20, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at the North County Annex (Highway 37), and Sept. 17, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at the North Lincoln County Annex. Fire department representatives who joined the meeting online expressed support, saying many homeowners were unaware they lacked protection and that the changes should proceed smoothly. The board voted to move forward and set the hearings; at least one commissioner recorded opposition on the voice vote.
The board’s action at this meeting was adoption of the resolution of intent and scheduling of hearings; any final boundary change will occur only after the statutorily required public-notice period and hearings, and may be overridden if sufficient written protests are received.
