The mayor disclosed the candidate is Michelle Damron's son and stated Michelle was intentionally excluded from the hiring process: "this person's name is, Ashton, Damron, and it is, Michelle Damron's son... we kept Michelle out of that completely," he said. The mayor said the appointment will proceed only after required checks are complete and that the candidate may start around the 16th if checks clear.
