Council approves lodging-tax awards for Mayfest, West Plains Little League and youth hockey event

Cindy presented recommendations from the lodging-tax committee: Mayfest requested $32,067 and the committee recommended $30,000 up front; West Plains Little League requested $2,000; and the Spokane America's Youth Hockey event sought retroactive disbursement due to late application filing caused by the event organizer’s serious car accident. Cindy said the committee vetted the events for operational eligibility and recommended approval. "When the committee looks at that, they look at to make sure that all the things they're requesting are operational..." she said.
Councilmembers discussed whether to increase awards beyond requests (one member suggested funding $5,000 for West Plains), but the chair noted changes would need to return to committee for review. Given record hotel-room nights and strong local economic impacts, the council approved the committee’s recommendations and passed Resolutions F355 and F356.
