Council authorizes Omnia membership and Mallory purchase to buy hazmat gear with state grant funds

Chief Jenkins told the council that joining the Omnia cooperative purchasing consortium will allow the city to use competitively solicited national contracts to procure needed hazmat equipment for the fire department. Jenkins said the city was awarded a $40,000 Department of Ecology grant to buy equipment and that purchasing through Omnia/Mallory would save about $9,000 on the purchase. "Omnia...allows us to go out and procure equipment and assets like the HAZMAT equipment that we're looking for," he said.
Councilmembers said Public Safety Committee had vetted the approach and that the cooperative contracts could benefit multiple departments. The council moved and passed two linked resolutions: F348 to join Omnia Partners and F349 to authorize the Mallory purchase using the awarded grant funds. Staff will coordinate registration and identify the city contact for contract administration.
