The Cheney City Council approved multiple fleet purchases at its Feb. 25 meeting, including a plan to buy an EV pickup for the light department meter technician and authorization to purchase police and fire vehicles.
Steve, the presenting staff member, said the EV pickup is available on state contract at $74,800 with a $10,000 rebate (net $64,800); adding 8.4% sales tax (about $5,443.20) brings the out‑the‑door price to roughly $70,300. He asked the council for a $26,000 appropriation increase to bring the line item to $71,000; the council approved Resolution F337. The council also approved an emergency response vehicle for Deputy Chief Anderson (vehicle price with taxes reported as $59,620 and upfit budget originally set at $90,000 but expected to come in under) and authorized purchase of two pursuit‑rated patrol vehicles (Resolution F340) as replacements for aging cars.
Council members expressed support for replacing aging equipment and for adding the EV vehicle to align with state climate commitments; staff said they will purchase protective caps and decal the meter‑tech vehicle with City of Cheney branding.
