Lincoln County commissioners voted May 27 not to renew the Evergreen hauling contract and instead to pursue operating its own green-box dumpster sites using lease agreements and county trucks and employees. One commissioner argued that running the program internally would let the county "control our own destiny" and could improve service; others noted an initial startup cost that the county budget could absorb and the contract renewal deadline in November gives time to plan. Public commenter Jonathan Jameson told commissioners he supported the decision: "I think that's a good move for the county. Good job," he said during public comment.
Commissioners also noted the prior contract had limited competition and included built-in annual increases. The board approved pursuing county-managed green-box sites and directed staff to prepare implementation details and cost estimates for future meetings.
