Residents urge attention to county roads and ask questions about biomass project and college repairs

Speaker Brian B. said he has seen growing deterioration of county and Forest Service access roads where heavy logging equipment enters and exits private timber holdings and asked whether companies can be asked to contribute to road maintenance. A county representative said Lincoln County maintains more than 2,400 miles of county roads and receives some fuel-tax redistribution tied to miles maintained, but that the county’s available funding is limited relative to need.
Resident Jonathan Jameson asked what type of energy and cost profile the proposed biomass facility would provide and whether energy could be directed to local customers. County officials said the amount and cost of energy will depend on the particular facility built and on purchaser agreements; they cautioned that biomass generation is generally more expensive than major generating sources and that a facility of the modular size discussed would not immediately produce large cost savings. Jameson also asked about progress on the community-college building; staff said a lease has been sent to the college and that an RFP for mold remediation and interior repairs will be issued for contractors to bid.
The commission thanked speakers and noted staff will continue to explore funding and feasibility for roads, biomass options and college repairs.
