County staff seek records after Yak School 7.63-mill levy appears in budget materials

County staff raised questions about an apparent 7.63-mill permissive levy applied to the Yak School district that county officials said had not been communicated to the treasurer or county clerk.
"It was a nonvote levy and it was for $9,366.37. That would be a 7.63 district mill levy for 5 years," the clerk said during the meeting while describing the amount showing in the draft materials. Commissioners and staff said they could not find supporting documentation in county records and directed staff to check with the elections department and obtain paperwork from the district to verify whether the levy was formally approved.
One staffer said she would attend the Yak School board meeting to follow up. The clerk also noted the amount produced a mills change from 45.90 to 53.53 in the affected budget lines. The clerk reported the Yak School has eight students this year; commissioners said they will research records and report back once they locate supporting documentation.
