Superintendent’s 2026–27 budget review postponed after wrong budget sheet is found

The superintendent of schools presented a draft 2026–27 budget to county commissioners but the review was cut short when staff discovered the wrong budget sheet in the packet and the finance office was closed.
“Hey. So before you you have my budget for the 2627 year. Um everybody's got a copy of it,” the superintendent said as she opened the briefing. Commissioners and staff immediately raised questions about several line items, including higher-than-expected postage and printing costs tied to homeschool mailings and the annual spelling bee, and uncertain coding for contract services in account 334. One participant noted that wages and employee contributions had not yet been factored into draft totals.
After identifying the incorrect packet, the chair recessed the meeting so staff could obtain the correct document and reschedule a full review with finance staff present. Commissioners asked the superintendent to follow up with the finance office and email updated, corrected budget pages once the figures — including wages and contributions — are finalized.
