Commissioner Durham said the change is part of a capital improvement after last August’s power failure, which caused small fires and forced the fair to close temporarily. “Their proposal came in at $33,525,” Durham said when presenting the quote, and he told the board the work must be completed “by mid May, no later than the 1st of June.” The board agreed to fund the contract from PILT (Payment in Lieu of Taxes) funds.
The county previously approved granting an easement for primary underground power to route service from a different location and replace a single pole transformer with three underground transformers. Staff said the easement includes a corrected legal description. Durham noted two electricians reviewed the system; Northwest Electric provided a full design and the quoted installation price.
The motion to contract with Northwest Electric was moved, seconded and approved by roll call. Commissioners directed staff to proceed with contracting and to coordinate payment from PILT funds. The county will monitor construction to meet scheduled fairground events and to reduce public‑safety risk from the earlier failure.
