Board approves submitting DNRC easement application for Norgard Trail connection

Commissioners approved submitting a preliminary easement application to the Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation for the Norgard Trail on Aug. 6. A representative asked the board to authorize submission of the paperwork to DNRC for an approximately 6‑acre easement; DNRC will review the application and return required adjustments and a purchase price. "I'm here today representative Ly Park District asking for your approval to submit the easement application to the DNRC," the representative said, requesting the board's approval to move forward with the preliminary submittal.
Board members reviewed the trail’s history (earlier county and Forest Service easements on adjacent segments) and confirmed that cultural surveys were completed and raised no concerns for the parcel in question. One commissioner noted that a single maintenance agreement covering the Ben Scott county park section, the DNRC segment and the Forest Service portion is planned, so the three segments would be signatories to one agreement. After discussion a motion to approve submission of the right‑of‑way/easement application was made, seconded and approved by voice vote; the chair and staff will sign and forward the application to DNRC for review.
