County approves conveyance of abandoned county road strip to Forest Service, conditions access confirmation

The board held a public hearing and approved Resolution 2026-04 to supersede a 2024 conveyance and convey county-owned strips through lots 1, 7 and 8 to the U.S. Forest Service. Planning staff said the county strip is effectively abandoned and overgrown; private property owners currently access their parcels via Nixon Road (Forest Service Road 14433).
Staff reported having email confirmation from the Forest Service that Road 14433 is open year-round. A nearby landowner who attended the hearing asked for written assurance that the Forest Service would not close or gate Nixon Road; commissioners approved the resolution on the condition that staff obtain a written Forest Service letter confirming no intent to close the road. "I have email confirmation from the forest supervisor that that national forest system road 14433 is open year round," the planner said. The board's motion included placing the Forest Service email into the official packet and seeking a formal letter for the file.
