Lincoln County authorizes Victim Advocate to apply for VOCA funding after reporting work with 508 clients

The county’s Victim Advocate told the commission Jan. 7 that the Victims of Crime Act (VOCA) grant opportunity covers a two-year cycle and is administered in Montana by the Department of Justice/Crime Control agency. The advocate said the grant can provide up to $250,000 with a 20% match requirement; local match may be provided in-kind, including volunteer hours and office costs. "This grant that we're on right now started July 1st of 2024...I've worked with 508 people," the advocate said, citing cases documented via the county attorney's office.
Commissioners voted to authorize the advocate to submit the VOCA application and to provide whatever local match the award requires. The board noted that, absent the advocate's services, some duties would fall back onto law enforcement. The motion passed by voice vote with no public opposition recorded.
