Sheriff Short presented a pay-scale correction for county detectives at the Aug. 20 meeting, saying detectives had been left a percentage point behind sergeants after a 2023 pay adjustment.
"All I'm proposing is to increase the detective percentage from 88% to 89% to make it equal with the patrol sergeants," the sheriff said. Commissioners moved and seconded the proposal, opened the item for public comment (none), and approved the increase by voice vote. The sheriff told the board the current budget can absorb the change and that payroll scales would be corrected.
Next steps: the sheriff's office will finalize the pay-scale paperwork and the county will update payroll records.
