First public hearing held on proposed Eureka Fire Service Area boundary changes; second hearing set for Sept. 17

The Lincoln County Board of Commissioners opened the first of two public hearings on a proposed amendment to the Eureka Fire Service Area boundary (Resolution 2025-27).
Staff explained that the service area boundaries were created when there were fewer houses in the affected areas and need updating where development has occurred. The chair directed attendees to posted maps at the annex that illustrate the upper Pinkham Creek extension, the Douglas Hill Road area and the Phils Lake area. No online comments were received during the hearing; the board heard a representative from the fire department in favor of the adjustments. The board closed the first hearing and scheduled the second for 11:00 a.m. on Sept. 17, 2025, at the North Lincoln County Annex.
Next steps: county staff will continue outreach and post the hearing maps in public spaces; the board will reconvene for the second hearing on the scheduled September date.
