Local shop owner urges Sisters Planning Commission to allow tiny homes on wheels

"Tiny homes on wheels is the key here," Funk said, pointing to model codes in Los Angeles, Portland and Sitka, Alaska, and describing units that typically cost "$60,000, 80,000, a 100" and range from roughly 150 to 400 square feet.
Funk said tiny homes are built off-site and placed on pads, which could allow property owners who cannot afford full development infrastructure to lease small pads instead of building traditional housing. She suggested trialing a site where a homeowner could host four tiny-home pads with sewer and water hookups and lease them to residents or provide the homes for rent.
She also urged the commission to study design standards so units look like homes rather than vehicles, citing examples of local codes that require features such as decks and double-pane windows. Funk said the arrangement could expand housing options for single people, elderly residents, and workers who struggle to find roommates or afford ADUs.
The presentation began at the start of the workshop item and continued through the commission discussion; commissioners did not take a formal vote during the session.
