Board presses engineers on alley drainage and UIC connections in Adams Avenue plan

During the Adams Avenue presentation, board members raised technical concerns about alley drainage and how proposed structures will connect to existing underground injection controls (UICs). One board member asked whether the 6-inch drain-rock galleries and slotted lids would be adequate; the consultant responded that some existing inlets currently pipe to UICs without pretreatment and that the new sedimentation manhole serves as a combined catch basin and pretreatment device. "Currently, there's an inlet here that just pipes to the UIC...I don't believe this has any pretreatment...so that's where the sediment manhole is," the engineer said.
Staff and the consultant said the design will not decommission UICs located in the right-of-way and that private property connections would be handled in coordination with property owners. The board asked staff to confirm drainage calculations and to ensure adjacent property owners know how proposed changes will affect their runoff.
