County adds LIDAR to GIS and recognizes Kelsey Creek as Firewise community

Supervisor Jessica Pyska told the council that new statewide LIDAR data released in December has been incorporated into Lake County's geographic information system to improve mapping of topography, vegetation and ladder fuels; she credited multiple partners, including USGS and the Coastal Conservancy, for funding the data.
Pyska also announced that Kelsey Creek has been recognized as a Firewise community and urged residents to "identify hazards" locally and to consider the potential insurance discount that can follow Firewise designation. The LIDAR data and the Firewise program are being presented as complementary tools to support wildfire risk reduction and watershed health planning.
