During public comment a council member relayed concerns received from multiple citizens that the city appears to support a particular Swisher business by spending roughly $15,000–$20,000 annually for reserve police at events. The council member said some residents felt this expense disproportionately benefits a business that serves a small share of the town.
"The city is actually paying about 15 to $20,000 a year for reserved cops for a business in Swisher that brings absolutely probably 1% of the town," the council member reported, asking the council to note how citizens perceive city support for local businesses. Other councilors responded that the cost had been approved by the council in the past and characterized it as an effort to support local business activity. No formal motion resulted from the public comment.
