Resident asks council to reconnect long‑standing water and sewer service to family property

David Castle (introduced by staff) told the council the water service to his father’s property had been cut when the town installed a new main, and he requested the town install a new water line to restore service. He also asked for the town’s policy on connecting to the municipal sewer so he can plan for replacing the trailer on the property and returning the lot to use.

Council members agreed the availability fee could be waived given prior service at the property, but they said the physical line is not serviceable (thin-wall irrigation pipe) and reconnection would require either boring under the road to install new pipe or finding an existing lateral/manhole to tie into. Chair said, “We had already had that connection discussion... the availability fee we would waive in this situation,” but also noted the town is not obligated to indefinitely maintain old, disused private service lines. The council asked staff to obtain cost estimates for boring and possible cost-sharing options before responding at the next meeting.
